Notes from Paul for building your Zomes collection:
1) Go to zometool.com
2) If you aren't dying to get tons of zomes right away, just buy a modest kit, and get it "naked" (without expensive plastic boxes to store it).
For example, you can get a naked creator kit for $39. It's nowhere near what you NEED, but perhaps you can be patient.
3) Once you are on their email list, wait until they announce a sale (which they do several times each year). Then buy a naked advanced math creator
4 kit ($179 when not on sale, $240 when not naked).
4) You will want AT LEAST the quantity of an advanced math creator 4 kit; you should also get some "hypershort" reds for making hyperdodecahedra
(120-cell). Or you can buy the hyperdo kit, which is currently $139, and not a bad deal. If you wait for a sale, it's better.
5) Once you know what you want (eg., a hyperdo), you can look up the parts list, and then order the parts directly by going to the "parts by the
pound" page. Again, wait for sales.
6) Once you are addicted, you will want to get more balls, and get colored balls, and possibly different-colored struts (eg., at Halloween, you
can sometimes get glow-in-the-dark struts). Different-colored balls are quite helpful for teaching, but not really necessary.
Lastly, don't forget to buy Zome Geometry, a great resource to get you started!
EVEN better: get together with a group of other teachers for a big order, and Josh may be able to negotiate a deal that can cut prices up to 50%.
